No it didn't! Capitalism did not come about because people were just trading money for products, and some just accumulated more than others. Capitalism is the direct result of state design. It's a political system as much as it is an economic system. Capitalism came about because monarchs enclosed the commons, enforced vagrancy laws, made the peasantry pay rent, imposed money on the peasantry via taxes, and forced them into factories. The US revolted and just democratized that economic system. We rejected the divine right of kings in favor of the divine right of majorities and we never replaced the economic system kings imposed. We just imagine it's free because we get to put a suggestion in the suggestion box every November. And we think we're free because anyone, not by birth-right, can become a land-LORD, or employer, or banker. But not everyone can be the boss, banker, or landlord, because there would be nobody left to exploit. It's a pyramid scheme. We imagine it's natural, because we've never experienced or heard of anything different. We're like fish who cannot contemplate the existence of water, because we've never experienced its absence.
