Today's charity shop find is a BBC micro:bit, a kind of educational computer gadget from 2016. There was a later version in 2020.
One wire from the battery pack had been pulled out. Probably by someone who didn't read the handling instructions properly. Easily fixed and besides it can also be powered by USB.
