“Machines just don’t do it as well.” In West Texas, artisans known as “Golden Needles” preserve the craft of making cowboy boots by hand. Two in particular, Jose Contreras and Victor Rodriguez, have been at it for over 30 years. Each is in his early 60s and among some of the youngest in the trade.
