I've recently had this chat with some dissidents as well. The conservative trope of funneling everyone into trades seems like a honeypot. Sure, its better than data entry or some faggot environmental science degree, but it isn't going to get you the credentials needed to take real power from the local government and enact actual change. Now, not everyone is meant to be a leader, and trades are a fantastic option as the coin flip of college (heads your gay, tails you have depression) proves to be mostly a time and money waster.

I ask kids "what do you want to do?" and then I will ask them if they want advice on what career path is correct based on my own reading of the tea leaves of economy, but I stopped beating the "college is bad" drum in favor of the "debt is a death wish" drum instead.
