If you have a problem with the people you are following filing frivolous reports all the time, then you probably shouldn't be following them. This is not based on reports made by any random npubs. It is ONLY based on the people I have actively determined I want to follow.
I make choices about who I am willing to allow to have my attention based on the opinions of my social circle in real life all the time. It is only natural that we should follow a similar rule of thumb in the online context, as well.
That is very different from allowing someone else to dictate what content I have access to, though. Because I can choose to ignore this filtering at any time.
Yes, it is the default, and defaults are important. However, I believe these defaults are sensible. Their descriptions seem pretty clear to me, too.
"Warn when posts have reports from your follows," probably displays a warning over the top of posts that people I follow have reported. Hey! That's exactly what it does! Moreover, I can dismiss the warning and choose to see the post anyway!
"Filter spam from strangers," probably makes it so Amethyst doesn't show me spammy posts from people I am not following. Yup! That's what it does!
Now, it doesn't tell me the nitty gritty details of how many reports have to be received from how many people that I follow, and it doesn't tell me exactly what content qualifies as "spam," but I think that is a bit much to expect within a mobile app UI. If you want to know the ins and outs of how an app works in that level of detail, you should go to the app's documentation, rather than expect it to be available within the interface.
