Please note this proposal - “instead of the US contingent, a Ukrainian contingent could be stationed in Europe” - is a dream scenario for Western European countries who could save on their own spending on defense, which became an unexpected budget expense since 2022. Poland, Finland and Baltic countries are in a slightly different situation because they have a border with Russia similar in length as Ukraine itself, but having Ukrainian army behind your back (figuratively) makes their job much easier.
