I’ve been in a small, stable discord instance with my friends for years. We have a pandemic channel, opt-in, where we share covid news. One of the guys, someone who regularly replies to posts in the pandemic channel, just invited us and his closest 50-75 friends over for an outdoor (American) thanksgiving celebration. Group etiquette calls for not pointing out that it’s a superspreader event waiting to happen. I dm’d a friend, like, whaaaat, and he was like “everybody gets to make their own decisions.”
I’m so, so disheartened by everything. Mr Thanksgiving is the kind of guy who replies “oh man that sounds bad” to links other people post, not the kind of guy who posts links of his own. The moral dissonance is so strong it’s making me feel nauseous.
My “you do you” friend is the group leader. I don’t feel like it’s okay for me to say anything to the superspreader if the leader is fine with it, but it’s like, why am I going to bother sharing links there? Everybody’s just going to make an informed decision to roll the dice for some deep fried turkey.
When this started, I said covid might get us all but it was going to get me last. It’s harder and harder to care about that last place award - not that I’m tempted by the thanksgiving thing. Feasts aren’t fun with the allergy life.
