The barrier to entry that I have found most troubling is the data bandwidth costs. I have a friend in the Kakuma Refugee Camp that I want to invite to Nostr. He was able to download the primal (npub12vk…pugg) app, but he is afraid of using it because he doesn't know how much bandwidth it will use and it costs him money above and beyond a $50USD cost per month. All I can do is wait for him to have enough "bundle" to try the app.
Of course when he does, I'll be able to send him zaps that can help pay for that, but in order for THAT to work he will also need to download strike (npub1ex7…vyt9), and connect it to a bank account so he can convert the sats to his local currency and then use them to pay his expenses. We haven't gotten there yet.
Once he has the bridge installed, then the task will be to start building a circular economy within the camp, but that's a long road.
