Unpopular opinion: I do not believe that the true innovation of Bitcoin is the self-custody of one's own money. This is an illusion on a global scale.

Imho the real innovation is that for the first time we have a verifiable proof of work (difficulty) per monetary unit that cannot be manipulated by any party.
