Ten years ago, a thought changed my life. I heard it from Gary Vee in a video, and it goes like this: If I step out onto the street in the morning and get hit by a bus, I won’t ask why it happened or blame the driver. Instead, I’ll ask why I didn’t leave two minutes earlier or look both ways before crossing.
This is radical responsibility. Take responsibility even for things that don’t seem like your fault. Because in some way, they might be. By being more mindful and cautious, we can prevent problems.
The key is to focus your energy on what you can actually change. Don’t waste it on things beyond your control, like someone’s behavior or the weather. Focus on your attitude, your work, your family, your friends, and yourself.
This idea of radical responsibility has made my life better.
