This kind of ties into what I was saying earlier about the centralization and elevation of sexual orientation terminology. Centering women should be enough. In fact, I think that should be the default for all women regardless of sexual interest because men view them as cattle more than human. But on top of sexual orientation terminology (to my understanding) being employed differently at the time "political lesbian" was coined, I do think it wasn't so different that women weren't aware that using this term (that was a product of the male centralization of sexuality) would have them taken more seriously in the struggle of noncompliance.
