Nice to see one of the comments mention client-certificate authentication.
But y'know, why use an existing standard which took an awfully long time to get implemented across various browsers and OSes, when they could pay some kids to reinvent the flat tire with a completely new standard? Someone's got to make sure the XKCD 927 joke still hits I guess? ;)
