The middle children of history and their hollow morality:
Would it be wrong to say that a generational that grew up without a strong moral foundation ensconced in metaphorical truths, historic mythology and a pathway to transcendent connection would eventually dissolve into shallow shell of what's considered 'good'? Words like: fairness, justice, compassion, equality, safety - will eventually reign supreme without meaning anything except for those in power dictate their meaning.
This generation will eventually turn towards a leader -- who in appearance is compassionate and strongly maternal/paternal -- uses these words to justify their will to power, and people will cheer for them and fight to justify their lies (a tyrant's dream).
Incompetence in form of bad policies, decline of the working class, tribalism, victim-mentality, militarism, centralised control of information, shift of federal-state to bureaucratic-state, drug-induced populace, etc are all symptoms of such morally bankrupt society.
To introduce any morality back into such a society where tribalism rules - the approach has to be a return to 'principles', e.g: Free-speech no longer means speech to those who we agree with, but even to those who we don't agree with. This has to be a top-down reinforcement.
Only when principles are introduced, should a return to "filling the gaps" using a metaphorically rich substrate of wisdom can be re-introduced back into collective consciousness. A merit-based leadership will eventually follow.
