Devs: when you find that Weird stuff in the code, remember these 3 important things:

- there were probably Reasons for the Weird
- the Reasons might not be valid any more
- the Reasons might have been Stupid.

Either way, make damn sure you Understand the Reasons BEFORE you try to change (or worse, eliminate) the Weird.
