Proposing amendments to Bills that are otherwise certain to pass is just what an opposition should be doing. The amendment won't succeed but it draws a useful line, forces the Government to defend press misbehaviour.

Also, more widely, this is a longstanding Labour position. And something Starmer has been personally involved in, going back to the phone-hacking prosecutions. The press hate him personally, and Labour generally. This is the party's fight.
