I just found a history article about the first five cows of Canterbury. They made the 3-month sea journey to New Zealand on the first British settler ships. It’s somewhat of a sad tale, as one cow fell off a cliff soon after arriving, two others died of eating the poisonous native plant tutu, and one met a mysterious end. The fifth cow, however, settled into her new home and lived out her life on Quail Island.
