is there any way to easily track down _where_ something was added to your PATH? (in any shell)

I'm trying to suggest some solutions to "it’s hard to tell how something ended up in your PATH, especially if it was automatically added in a script somewhere sourced from your bashrc” and I'm coming up kind of empty except for “uh maybe just try to not source too much stuff in your shell config” which is my approach but feels unsatisfying
