I don't think they are too advanced for homeschool kids. Most homeschool kids read a lot and, especially if they grow up reading classic literature, they can handle stuff like that.
To come up with books, I was wandering around the house looking for books because I couldn't remember most of the titles or authors. I was trying to find my Norton Anthology, because it had some of the ancient literature that I had not read in school, but read with my son while homeschooling and was thinking some of that should be read. I ran out of time and didn't get to check all of the bookshelves for books and it is possible that the Norton Anthology got put away in a box with the homeschool stuff in the basement.
