I was trying to think what the zeitgeist of Millennials might be, compared to GenX. I had some thoughts, but would love to hear from friends. For GenX, I took latchkey parenting, the end of the Cold War, and the War on Drugs as the defining ideas - GenX tend to be independent, we grew up in an era of fatalism - "all the cool things have been done, we're cogs in a machine, the enemy is the system" as the dominant idea.
