Why the fuck do ISP execs still think they need to offer phone services? At the last fast four ISP jobs I've worked at, a VoIP offering plan came from down on high, it was declared top priority, and given tons of resources, marketing, and built out to 11.
And it never sells for shit. Out of 1500 residential subscribers at $weCantSellFiber, the numbered ordered was literally 1, and that person got it for free for being a tester.
At $weSkiAndFiber, the acceptance rate out of 30000 residential subscribers was maybe 100. Though that place did manage to sell some business class phone services, but when you factor in hardware, software, and support fees, I doubt the entire stack even broke even.
Loss leader, I guess?
I swear, ISPs need to stop bothering. Plenty of VoIP solutions can do it better, and cheaper.
This rant brought to you by a network engineer who is tired of giving a shit about phones no one uses.
