Reducing conversation on complex, nuanced, topics to bumper-sticker sloganeering is, IMO, one of the key factors behind the state of society today. We need longer, deeper, better social media, not 80 character tweets and 1-minute videos. One reason I spend most of my social media time here is I get 1000 characters (on Universeodon), which is usually enough to form a cohesive thought that includes both the idea *and* my justification for it. Short posts allow only the statement of an idea as if it was a decree from on high, not the result of a chain of reasoning from principles to conclusions.
