my living room / loft sound system design is complete. total parts would run about $50,000 ( $35,000 for drivers, $15,000 for electronics ).
here is the calculated output capacity:
the orange line on the bottom is music spectrum at maximum level legally allowed at rock concerts. the blue line is output capacity of my design.
scale is logarithmic so 30 decibel difference ( 130 vs 100 ) is a factor of 1,000X. in other words my system would reach maximum legal rock concert sound pressure at 0.1% power while also being able to extend an octave below as well as an octave above the spectrum of music.
i will post the detailed design at my site once i have time to sketch it all up. i have absolutely no idea how that system could be used, however. i rarely listen at levels above 80 decibels, which would barely register on the chart above. for reference an interior of a car while driving on the highway is about 70db.
however if we look at this chart:
then 130 db might actually be a reasonable level if your goal is to absolutely max out your ears to the theoretical limit
