I always thought I was a nature person and adventurous until, after dropping my son at summer camp one year, I drove up into the Tennessee hills outside of Tellico Plains where I had made a reservation for a tiny cabin. Most of it was through woods and an unpaved road that was flooded. (I had an SUV.) The GPS signal dropped, it was getting dark, I felt lost, and I had limited gas. There was a moment I truly worried. It was humbling. It adjusted my own self-perception regarding nature.
