Saxophonist Casey Benjamin has died at age 45. He made his mark with The Robert Glasper Experiment and worked with a who's who of jazz, hip hop and R&B stars: Beyonce, Q-Tip, Roy Hargrove, Betty Carter, Busta Rhymes, and many others.

I saw him play only once, with Mike Clark at the Blue Note in the mid-aughts, and he was the standout player that night.
