I'm assuming we're talking joint pains in your dogs?
I had an Alaskan Malamute that lived to be 13.5, well past normal life expectancy. He had some hip dysplasia problems and was getting stiff and starting to have trouble standing up. The vet offered two drugs: one very expensive but he would still have a good quality of life and another that was cheap but he would basically sleep away the rest of his life. Instead we first gave him glucosamine and fish oil. That improved his condition immensely for a couple of years, but then he started going downhill again. We then started giving him alfalfa pills (ours were Shaklee and made for people). Since he was adult human sized (128 lbs), we just gave him people supplements. The alfalfa worked better than the pain killers with zero negative side effects. I can't swear it will work for everyone, but it worked wonderfully for our dog.
