So I did enjoy my rewatch of Waterworld.
The parts I didn't like was a tendency to go nasty about the ethics of the post-apocalypse. "The Mariner" is this sort of stoic, arsehole, non-character the whole way through.
On the positives, we'll never see a film again with this degree of practical effects. It wasn't economically feasible at the time (famously so), and it will never be again.
But there's a ton of great stunts in this. And worth watching on that basis alone.
(Also Jack Black makes an early career appearance.)
