yesterday I was going to take mom to see the cathedral but there was so much DB chaos that we gave up halfway at Düsseldorf. so I took the family to some good Japanese restaurants and afterwards wanted to show them the Japanese garden at the EKÖ-Haus, except I found the wrong "Japanese garden" on the map and we ended up at the other side of the Rhine, but the weather was pleasant so we walked through the park and along the river, and then we randomly stumbled on the Kriegerdenkmal der 39er. I was quite baffled that this thing is still left standing, undefaced and without even a critical installation or anything.

at least it was instructive for the children. then I spotted that the nearest kiosk had a big German flag, hooligan-like men in black clothes etc., so I left in a hurry before I was forced to punch someone in front of my mom which would have been somewhat impolite.
