I don't know who here is an artist, but have an analogy:
You've made a masterpiece, and you love it. But on closer inspection, there's a small imperfection. You can fix it, though. Or so you think. But when you do, you notice that it no longer matches the rest of the piece. Now it sticks out like a sore thumb. Have to fix that or the whole thing will look funny. And while "fixing" it, the problem becomes worse. And so it goes until you're fed up, the piece is irrevocably ruined, and you've wasted ages on something that will never come to fruition. If only you'd never tried to change that tiny thing. Maybe you'd still have something beautiful.
