Great Uncle knew after Japan. Drank himself sick after war... would only say "I can't be forgiven."
Uncle just passed away who didn't have it ALL figured out, if ya know what I mean (no chance to talk with him for awhile, sadly).

But even being stateside for 'Nam, though losing his best friend quickly over there, he figured out getting had. Early 90's Navy brother - Desert Storm - figured out.
