Biden is surrounded by people whose entire working and/or personal existence is devoted to helping and protecting him, and those people do not want to give up the fight (or their power and influence) any more than he does. This makes executing some kind of candidate switch – assuming that would be a good move – almost impossible, absent some even worse catastrophe
