The needs of a startup vs a local, regional business, vs global embedded car tech, vs Ebay, all have major different considerations and regulations. But even then, it's not like Verizon just offloaded everything to Amazon. They're running OpenStack with OpenShift on their edge devices. At some point, everything is baremetal, and if it weren't cheaper, there wouldn't be a business model for cloud hosting.
