A final note about Samus being retired: Samus is getting retired from the main tournament regardless of who wins the final, because she’s just so much stronger than every single other girl in the field except MAYBE Zelda. If Zelda wins, she’s also getting retired, meaning that both our champions will be kept out of the 2025 tournament – however, they WILL be participating in a final Elite 4 Super Tournament, where in addition to the 2023 and 2024 winners, the 2025 winner *and* losing finalist will also get to participate.

If Zelda loses to Samus, I’ll probably put up a poll to decide her fate, but only after I’ve done a writeup of the entire 2024 contest. My take is that even if Zelda gets spanked hard by Samus, she should still be capable of easily winning with Samus removed from the equation – but maybe people still want to see Zelda get that chance to earn a title without having to deal with Samus. Ultimately, I think Fedi made the right call to let Samus defend her title, so I’m comfortable leaving Zelda’s fate up to our autistic cringelords, should she lose. Of course, if she defeats Samus, it’ll be very clear that BOTH of these girls need to go, because they’ll only ever lose to each other.
