#grownostr

I recently had an older farmer bring in a 1977 Chevrolet pickup. It had been literally destroyed by rust from years of hard farm work, or so I thought.
When it came into the shop, everyone scoffed, the shop owner laughed, they called the vehicle owner a fool, but they fixed it, and it was ready for service again.
When I asked the owner why he continued to sink money into such a beat up vehicle he looked at me and said, “this truck has had one job since 1977. It always has and It still has the ability to complete the job. I pay less than $50 a year in taxes and registration . To replace this truck, I would have to buy something newer, that’s design is inferior, that will struggle to do the same job. It will cost thousands. This truck has faithfully done the job for 47 rears. I will have to pay thousands in taxes and registration every year for a new one. The Problem with your generation is waste. This truck is not trash yet, the only trash would be the life wasted in trade for newer, not better.”

I was thinking about that this morning. There is no doubt our perspective and culture has changed. I’m not sure what the lesson is yet but my gut tells me the fool is not the farmer…
