Btw if people are looking at making a #nixos fork feel free to get in touch.

Aux has been focused on building a bottom-up replacement for things. In particular I would point to the labs repo which has a replacement for nixpkgs lib, a binary bootstrap up to a modern cpp toolchain, and the beginning of a larger package set using the module system (though I am still working on that last one).
