A few years passed, and in late 2023, Nilered posted a video trying to reproduce the method described in the paper. They eventually got it to work (sort of), but I could see how it would be challenging to upscale to industrial.
I think it's a nice illustration of the difficulties of taking even a clearly "applicative" concept from research and both reproducing and scaling it up into a product. #Science and R&D meanders, sinuosity might be high.
