What’s overly concerned?
Empathy and emotional intelligence are important. I completely agree with you about where that’s rooted. What I’d say is that people who let their emotions rule them tend to not have emotional intelligence or empathy, even if they claim to value it; like narcissists, they really only want it for their own benefit and aren’t concerned with reciprocating it or exploring how to do so.
I don’t know about your experience, but most people I’ve heard speaking about emotional intelligence actually do seem to have it.
