They changed email behavior a while back. Also depending maybe paid vs free domain. It may be because of passkeys that eventually may lead to complete lock out of access. Another way is to log in with Wallet Connect but I'm not sure if that is also requiring to have the token. But definitely it's tied to a seed and not a mail.
