So lately, I feel the Fediverse is a lot less "toxic" (e.g. no angry people attacking other people online).

Not sure if it's just me—perhaps my "following" habit—or is it something else.

If it's something else, then I have a guess:

the Fediverse actually has skin in the game to keep this place friendly.

Twitter, on the other hand, has a profit-motivated incentive to bring everyone on there, including the toxic people.

The Fediverse, however, is stretched financially thin.

Behave badly on the Fediverse, people leave, and servers shut down. No more Fediverse for other people; no more Fediverse for you. There are no extrinsic incentives on here.

It's all intrinsic motivation to just use the platform, and have it organically thrive.

Either that, or there is a much simpler explanation for why this place feels friendlier.
