Why an ads plugin concerns me is that paid ads come with a LOT of expectations around analytics and "engagement". Which means that any instance running an ads plugin would explicitly be harvesting data from the rest of the fediverse to sell to the ad company.
Which is hostile and horrible behaviour, and to me means that federating with that instance is dangerous.
