Once armies stopped facing off on a defined battlefield, war became even immoral than it once was. It was always an enormous waste of human capital in the pursuit of power and wealth. But often the soldiers were there of their own free will. Killing each other was part of the deal.
But once you target civilian infrastructure and population centers, any moral high ground you think you’re on, vanishes beneath you.
