A relatively thin tree can be turned into a large sheet of plywood which is a reliable construction material.
The technology should be used to limit deforestation as much as possible by producing materials from farmed fast growing trees.
Only a total collapse of the modern industrial world and a mass extinction event would allow us to go back to using natural resources the way our ancestors did. It's becoming very difficult to find large old trees outside of nature preserves.
