If mulching lawnmowers worked, we would see it when we have to face a #heatwave like we are having here.

The clippings would work as a mulch and keep the roots of your grass cool. Instead, they are being burned and make it look like this yellow/brown mess.

If you want to protect your grass, mow it tall and bag your clippings. Then apply some compost in the spring to help your roots get nutrients. Water it with moderation.
