If you are new to bitcoin and new to self-custody I highly recommend you simply take your time. Don’t let the panic of recent exchange incidents rush you into an insecure setup. But too, don’t let fear of mistakes dismay you from control. Think about your own security/privacy tradeoffs and come up with a game plan, ask questions, and learn. Download a software wallet and practice key/utxo management with small amounts. Take a look at a mempool like mempool.space and get familiar with what it means to sign/broadcast a transaction in a sovereign way. It won’t take long and you will be thankful you did. (nothing I said is remotely new or original but worth repeating)
