You could take your current phone, give it a factory reset, install just security software (ad-blocker, antivirus), and then use that for banking. That would free you up to run any OS you fancied on your new phone, at the cost of either having to carry two phones and keep them charged or bring limited to doing home banking, well, at home. I've no idea whether that trade-off works for you, but it's an option to consider.
(What brings it to mind is that I use my previous phone for listening to music while working in my home office, because it has a 3.5mm jack socket; my current phone hasn't. Since it runs nothing except security software and Spotify and doesn't have a Sim, the security risk of running an outdated OS is minimal.)
