Something else I would add is that the 2008 market crash redistributed a lot of people, or at least it did in my corner of the world, a mid-sized midwestern city. Many of the friends I had known my entire life pulled up stakes and moved elsewhere in the country in search of work. I wonder what large-scale effect that had on relationships and interactions and the overall social situation in our country.
