I woke up in the middle of cataract surgery. The anesthetic was local. If I had been denied more, I may have lost my sight. It 's very hard to remain still -- even with one's head plastered to a gurney -- and you have to remain perfectly still when the doctor is pulling shmutz out of your eye. This doesn't even rise to the level of what I'm sure others have experienced when the anesthesia wears off in medias res.
