This is similar to how YouTube works, except you don't have to be a paid subscriber. I guess it would be like if YT required your to have YT Premium (or whatever they're calling it nowadays) ON TOP OF all the other requirements in order to enable ad-revenue sharing.
I dunno, it is what it is. This is what these centralized for-profit companies do. Just stop using them. Support #Mastodon #Pixelfed #PeerTube #Lemmy and other decentralized services, and help your friends to do the same.
