Like the AI above, I give it tools which give it capabilities, but I also have to tell it that it has those capabilities in the system prompt or else it won't know that it has them despite being able to use them. Even to the point of silliness.
E.g. if give it memory but forget to tell it that it has a memory:
Me: can you remember my name is Rod
AI: sorry I can't remember anything as I have no memory
Me: what's my name?
AI: Rod
Me: how did you know that?
AI: some reasonable sounding BS
