Yeah, I think they are quite high, although we pay the same whether we're married or not.
But to be fair, I don't think you can do a straight currency conversion, because $731k to you is not realistically going to be worth R13m to us. I like the Big Mac Index for those kinds of comparisons, actually. It gives a much better indication of the actual VALUE of money in different places (basically, "How many Big Macs could you buy with that?"). According to that, R1.8m to us is more like $197 368 (at R9.12 to the USD). Which actually makes it sound even worse than you did, so never mind. 😆
