I started writing fiction when I couldn't write non-fiction anymore because trauma.
Looking back, I always made up stories in my head and played them with my lego as a child. Even back then, hurt/comfort and happy endings were my main trope, so, it seems something ingrained in my personality. I can't say what inspires me. I always had a blooming fantasy, much too much for my surroundings, but looking back, I think it is the thing that keeps me going. My head-worlds.
